Club Handicap 10K – 9th July 2019

A superb turnout leading to a record attendance of 53 athletes. I hope all those first timers enjoyed the Handicap experience, as it’s pretty different to running a normal race!

Thanks to Stuart for the list of times; they were obviously very comprehensive as he managed to get to within 9 secs of his handicap.

In general a pleasant evening with the weather which appeared to allow over half the field to get within their handicap times.

The quickest individual on the night was Kieren Flannery; taking the Championship Title for the first time in 37.34, following his runner up position last year. Jonathan Oxbrough took 2nd place in 38.15 only 4 secs outside his 2016 time. Whilst Stephen Snow for consistency finished in 3rd position for the third year running.

In the Ladies race Nicki took the honours, securing her 16th Championship in a time of 41.12; but we had a great breakthrough for Ella Pearce taking 2nd place in 44.04. 3rd place went to Rachel Trivett in 44.31, who took nearly 3 minutes off her previous best Championship time from 2017.

1st across the line was Nicki West, a fairly recent addition to the Club, who ran a very impressive 50.02, substantially quicker than I had calculated!

During the busiest period on the finish line we had 32 finishers in 2 mins 12 secs; 3/5th of the field. Last year we had 32 finishers in 2mins 11 secs.
Nearest handicap went to Jason Tomkins who managed to just miss out on his predicted time by just 2 secs.

Thanks as usual to all the helpers involved with food preparation and with time & number recorders for both start and finish; along with marshals around the course. Special thanks to Marie for sorting out and collecting the chips and managing the kitchen.
